Inland Fishery visit

The Inland Fishery visited Newcastle on the 3/52017.We have been studying in class about all the insects and fish that live in our local rivers as well as the life cycle of the salmon. They came out to give us a first hand look at all the life in our local streams and rivers. They first did a kick sample where they kicked up all the insects and fish which live under rocks and greenage in our streams. They held the net downstream to catch the items which were washed up. They then put the insect into a container and using a key we got the opportunity to investigate what type of insects we found. There were fresh water shrimp, beetles, caddis fly and mayfly. This means that our water is of good quality. They also gave us some helpful tips on how we can take care of our local streams to help us obtain our next Green Flag.
