Special Assembly for Mr Des Neylon

On Monday the 12th of October we had a very special visitor. Mr Neylon came to say goodbye to the pupils and staff of Newcastle School. Mr Neylon started working in Newcastle in 1999 and he retired in August. The whole school gathered to wish him well and we had a special assembly for him.
Mr Neylon loves trad music so 4th, 5th and 6th class played Shoe the donkey, The Kerry Polka and Ámhrán na bhFiann for him. 3rd class said a gorgeous poem about the Liam Mc Carthy cup for him in Irish. Mr Neylon loves the Irish language and he loved 3rd classe's poem. 2nd class sang "It's a Small World" and Mr Neylon said it reminded him of his trip to Disneyland! They also said a wonderful poem for him. 1st class sang "Ireland's Call" and it was pure magic. Mr Neylon was spotted singing along! Senior Infants sang "You've Got a Friend In Me" to Mr Neylon and they were amazing. Mr Neylon certainly has a friend in all of us! Junior infants said their nursery rhymes for him and he was very impressed with how well they performed. The whole school sang a specially composed song for Mr Neylon and he loved it. Well done to the children in 4th and 5th class for composing it. Thank you to Mrs Magnier for all of the work she put into organising the special assembly.
A huge thank you to the children in 5th and 6th class and their parents who baked gorgeous goodies for Mr Neylon.  We wish Des the very best of luck in his retirement. He loved the special assembly and it was nice for him to know what a valued member of staff he was for 16 years here in Newcastle. A fond farewell for a wonderful teacher and colleague.
