10 pupils went out to take part in the 1916 Teagasc celebrations today. We picked four teams of 10 made up of boys from all the schools in Athenry. We played small sided games, afterwards we played a Dublin team who were down for the celebrations. We all received medals, got to hold the old Sam Maguire and Liam McCarthy Cups.We even got a chance to play with old hurls and sliotars. We had an opportunity to walk around the grounds and view old machinery, tools as well as replicas of buildings such as the GPO. It was great fun and we even got to meet a star on our way home. A special thanks to all the parents who helped out on the day.
