Th Girls did us proud!!!

Mini 7's

The girls traveled to Carabane today to play in the mini 7's final. They were drawn in a group including Ballyglass and Claregalway. We played Claregalway first and it was a tight affair but a spirited second half performance saw us come out on top. We then faced Ballyglass and although playing with the breeze we only led by one point at half time, we were up against it but in typical Newcastle fashion the girls fought hard to gain a vital win and help us progress to the next round. Along with ourselves,  New Inn and Carnmore qualified and it was New Inn we played first. We gave them a big lead in the first few minutes and were unlucky to have three efforts skim past the posts. Again the girls never say die attitude helped them back into the game and fantastic performances by the team brought the best out of New Inn. We ended up the game on the loosing side but the girls could hold their heads high as it was New Inn who eventually went on to win the competition. With tired legs the girls had to still play their last game against Carnmore who had qualified from a tough group including Portumna and Tynagh/Kileen. This was again a close encounter but our defense remained solid and we pushed on in the forwards with a fantastic display of hooking, blocking and shooting. In a tight finish we came out on top. Unfortunately New Inn went on to win the final game but the girls should be very proud of the excellent job they did representing themselves, their familes, their teachers as well as all the students of St. Oliver Plunkett N.S.
