Under 12 Champions 2018

On the 15th of September the Saint Mary's Athenry Under 12's hurling team played against Castlegar in an Under 12 A shield final in Carnmore GAA pitch.
The final score in the match was 3-08 to 2-07. There are five people in Newcastle N.S. that played on the team. We all had an exceptional game, all playing really well. The majority of us were playing in backs or midfield so we didn't really get a chance to score but we stopped the other team from scoring by defending really well. We are very proud of this great achievement.

Boys' Mini 7s

Ten boys from 5th and 6th class represented us in the mini 7'scompetition in Monivea today. We were drawn in a group along with Monivea, Gael Scoil RĂada, and Athenry Boys' school. The team hurled superbly and won all of their opening games.

We qualified from our group and went on to play Carnaun in the final. It was a fierce battle and the sides could not be separated in the first half with the score 0-4 to 1-1at half time. In the second half Carnaun took advantage of their goal chance and ran out eventual winners on the day. Well done to all involved and thanks to all the parents who showed up to support our team. They did us proud.

Best of luck to Carnaun in the mini 7's finals.

Blessing of new building and Tarmac area

We had a special blessing of our new prefab and tarmac area on Friday. A special thanks to Canon Brendan for performing the blessing and all the parents who attended. The pupils sang their Newcastle National school anthem with pride and were rewarded with treats from the Parents Association who also provided tea and biscuits for our guests.
Thanks to all those who helped us celebrate on  this great occasion.

Newcastle heroes

On the first Friday back we had a special assembly to welcome all the students back after the holidays. We also had some very special guests. Past students who achieved outstanding results both academically and on the sports field over the holidays came in to tell us of all about their fantastic success. We are so proud of all you have achieved.

Well done!
