Camogie All Ireland Champions 2017

On the 17 June, the Athenry Under 14s won the All Ireland Féile. We played in Ballyboden, Dublin. We played four teams; Cahir from Tipperary, Eire Óg from Cork, Ballyboden from Dublin and Kilanena from Clare. The facilities in Dublin were great. We won all of our matches by a 15 point margin. We had left Athenry at 7 in the morning and didn't get back until 10 in the night.  It was a scorcher of a day with temperatures reaching 27 degrees. We played Cahir from Tipperary in the final. The final score was 4-11 to 0-01! We were ecstatic and overjoyed. We stopped for dinner on the way home. On the route back to Athenry, lots of people were out cheering us on and lighting bonfires. We clapped and cheered on the bus. We chanted the "Fields of Athenry" and the bus stopped at the Square in Athenry. The Square was full of supporters, friends and family. Past and present pupils from Newcastle on the winning team were Nichola Harte, captain, Megan Greally, Clara Keane, Sabina Rabbitte, Olwen Rabbitte, Shannon Rabbitte and Kiara Collins. We would like to thank our managers Mark, Joe, Mary Ruane and Gerry Dempsey. We are the Champions of Ireland 2017! Well done Athenry! :-]

The staff of Newcastle are very proud of our past and present pupils who have achieved such fantastic success. Well done to all the girls on their superb victory. They always do us proud.
