Congratulations

Well done to our Newcastle representative who was picked to play at half time in O Moore Park for the Cumann na mBunscol Galway team on the 18th of June. She has always represented the school superbly and we couldn't have been so successful in the past few years without her.

Camogie All Ireland Champions 2017

On the 17 June, the Athenry Under 14s won the All Ireland Féile. We played in Ballyboden, Dublin. We played four teams; Cahir from Tipperary, Eire Óg from Cork, Ballyboden from Dublin and Kilanena from Clare. The facilities in Dublin were great. We won all of our matches by a 15 point margin. We had left Athenry at 7 in the morning and didn't get back until 10 in the night.  It was a scorcher of a day with temperatures reaching 27 degrees. We played Cahir from Tipperary in the final. The final score was 4-11 to 0-01! We were ecstatic and overjoyed. We stopped for dinner on the way home. On the route back to Athenry, lots of people were out cheering us on and lighting bonfires. We clapped and cheered on the bus. We chanted the "Fields of Athenry" and the bus stopped at the Square in Athenry. The Square was full of supporters, friends and family. Past and present pupils from Newcastle on the winning team were Nichola Harte, captain, Megan Greally, Clara Keane, Sabina Rabbitte, Olwen Rabbitte, Shannon Rabbitte and Kiara Collins. We would like to thank our managers Mark, Joe, Mary Ruane and Gerry Dempsey. We are the Champions of Ireland 2017! Well done Athenry! :-]

The staff of Newcastle are very proud of our past and present pupils who have achieved such fantastic success. Well done to all the girls on their superb victory. They always do us proud.

3rd/4th class school tour

On the 22/6 3rd and 4th class went on their school tour to Lough Key forest park.  We left at 8:50 and arrived at 10:30. We had a small snack and then got a tour of the grounds where we were told all the local history by the guide. We walked to the top of a very high tower and had a scenic view of the surroundings. We got to walk on a rope bridge 10 metres above the ground and view the flora and fauna from different perspectives. We had some lunch and that’s when the fun began. We got into our groups and moved into the 'Escape Rooms'. There was a mix of mental, physical and puzzle challenges. There was great teamwork and ingenuity used working out the escape routes. Afterwards we finished our lunch and went to the shop to get a few treats. We stopped in Boyle on the way home and Miss Giblin surprised us by giving everyone an ice-cream as a treat from the school. The parents were waiting eagerly for our arrival home at half 5. Massive thanks to Tobias, the bus driver for being so patient and helpful on the tour. Thanks also to Shauna and Regina for accompanying us on the tour. We hope that you enjoyed the day as much as we did. Well done to everyone on a great day out.
