John Lusby (The Owl Man) and Norman visit Newcastle

We were delighted to have John Lusby (of Rte's Shutterbug fame) come to the school. He gave a wonderful presentation about owls, telling us so many fascinating facts. John is the Chief Raptor Officer for this part of the world (we learnt a raptor is a bird of prey). Norman, from Monivea Birdwatch Ireland, in conjunction with John, is working to promote nesting of barn owls around Athenry. A nesting box is being placed in the Newcastle pitch. We very much hope that this beautiful raptor comes to Newcastle. Watch out for them on a full moon night!

Thank you to Pearse Mulhall for telling us about Norman and this wonderful local initiative.
